About the Incorrect Quotes Generator

An incorrect quote is a short exchange attributed to characters who never said it, and the format is fixed: speaker A asks something ordinary, speaker B answers with something indefensible. This tool builds that shape from 60 openers and 60 replies, which is 3,600 exchanges. Swap the letters for your characters and the joke does the rest.

The comedy comes from mismatch, so the two halves are written to be independent. "Why is the ceiling wet?" against "I stand by every decision except that one" works because neither line knows about the other. Reroll a line that resolves too neatly, because a reply that actually answers the question is the one that will not be funny.

The blank line separator keeps each exchange readable when you paste a batch into a post. Names longer than a single letter fit fine, so a find and replace on A and B is usually the last step. If you want a pairing to write about first, the OTP Prompt Generator supplies the situation, and the Character Trait Generator tells you which of the two would say the ridiculous half.

How to use

  1. Choose how many exchanges you want in one go.
  2. Press Generate and read them as a pair of voices, not two sentences.
  3. Replace A and B with your character names before posting.
  4. Copy the batch, or Download it to keep a stock of drafts.

Common questions

Why do some exchanges not make sense?
The two halves are drawn independently, which is the whole point. Reroll any line where the answer fits the question too neatly.
Can I change the speaker labels?
Yes. Copy the output and run a find and replace on A and B with your own character names.
How many exchanges are possible?
Sixty openers against sixty replies gives 3,600 different two line quotes.
Is this safe to post publicly?
The lines are clean and generic, and none of them reference a real person, so they are safe to attribute to fictional characters.
